Phenylketonuria PKU is a rare inherited disease. It affects the individual's power to break down an protein building block called phenylalanine. Frequently, the liver creates an enzyme known as phenylalanine hydroxylase, which changes phenylalanine into tyrosine. In people who have PKU, this enzyme fails to function properly. As a result, phenylala
